The headline says it all. Just when it seemed that all non-teaching schools based staff would finally know their new pay scale, the powers that be throw a rather large spanner in the works.
With no prior consultation with any of the three trade unions involved - in what is supposed to be a joint working agreement - three days before the notification date of February 5th, a whopping ten per cent of the new grades were 'pulled' - and over 800 staff left in the dark.
Clearly, this is unacceptable.
As this UNITY goes to press, UNISON is seeking urgent talks with management to resolve this situation, which has no doubt caused stress and alarm for you, our members.
To reiterate, UNISON, GMB and TGWU were not consulted by management regarding their intent to do this and members are questioning the reasons why this has happened.
Please be assured that UNISON representatives are vigorously pursuing this and is asking the big question why has this happened at such a late stage and without any consultation with the trade unions?
It will be 'interesting' to see the rationale behind the unilateral decision made by management and UNISON will tell all as soon as possible.
Of course, notice periods for staff who have not yet been informed will have to be re-negotiated to ensure an equal and fair process for all.
For those staff who have received notification and who are unhappy, then lodge your appeal now (81KB, opens in a new window) with your school, the Job Evaluation Team and the UNISON Branch Office. Meetings are and have been held countywide to assist staff who have questions, a timetable for these is available in your workplace.
In the mean time, please stay calm and trust UNISON to unravel this situation.
