Joint Statement between Management amd UNISON (30 Apr 05)

We are delighted to inform staff that the Job Evaluation Project continues at pace with full involvement of both management and UNISON.

In the immediate future this means that we will be working in partnership to continue this progress in the following areas:

  1. The formulation and design of the Job Evaluation Appeals procedure
  2. Joint panel job evaluations
  3. Fully supported joint trade union and management job evaluation
    involvement.

Challenges still remain within some elements of the Job Evaluation Collective Agreement but we jointly remain optimistic that these will be resolved.

The story as at 1 Mar 05

Last years pay deal had conditions attached that bound both the Employers side and the Trade Unions to agree to a six point plan of action over the next two years.

One of these conditions is to establish a fair and grading system to evaluate jobs, in other words, to carry out a job evaluation process.

Further advice from UNISON nationally has indicated that the Job Evaluation process should be covered by two separate agreements:

Agreement 1 - The process and procedures

- this agreement (pdf file - 47KB - opens in a new window) details:

Agreement 2 - forms the final Collective Agreement

- this details:

There is a requirement for this agreement to be accepted by the membership and therefore will be subject to ballot.

Currently the detail is still part of ongoing negotiations and will not be completed until 50% of the evaluations have been completed. However current advice from national UNISON is to restrict the length of protection due to potential risk of discrimination.
