Adult & Community Services Modernisation Programme (16 Oct 07)

'Improving Care Management'

A report was presented to the County Council Executive on 4 Sep 07 outlining recommendations about improving the care management process.

This was accepted, and on 12 Sep 07 a 90-day collective consultation with staff and trades unions began.

The key points of this Improving Care Management (100KB, opens in a new window) report are:

  1. A reduction in 'assessments and reviews by visits' - according to the figures this could equate to just under a 70% reduction in assessments and reviews by visits.

  2. Para 5.1 Staff Consultation: 'overall, there is expected to be large net reduction in assessment and administrative staff'.

The document clearly states that there is expected to be a reduction of staff by 80 full time posts. The breakdown of these posts is at present (full time equivalent):

These figures were produced before the start of the pilots and the actual figure won't be known until the outcome of the pilots is known and the consultation is completed.

Members must engage in the consultation by attending workshops and raising comments / queries on the Adult & Community Service modernisation message board.

UNISON would like to hear from you! Your local Stewards are:

Pauline Roberts, Darienne Flemington, Colin Trudgeon, Bernie Crean, Ian Leeson

'Modernisation Programme' - Devon Social Services

As part of the ongoing work of the Modernisation Programme, the role of the Trades Unions in Devon was discussed at the Joint Consultative Committee meeting on 25 July 05. As a result the following statement was agreed by both Social Services' Senior Management and the Trade Unions.

'On the 25 July 05 a time-limited agreement was reached giving the Trade Unions additional facilities time to participate in activities arising in connection with the Modernisation Programme. This will ensure that UNISON and GMB are able to participate fully.'

The following will be working with Devon County Council on behalf of their members to ensure the best possible outcome for all staff.

The Trade Union facilities time is to be spent on the following range of activities:
