Lifelong Learning Group minutes - 5 Sep 05
Matford
lower meeting room
Present:
- Rose Gander, Dave Henley, Denise Cooper.
Apologies:
- Julia Boulton, Julie Vaughan-Atkins, Jackie Roberts, Jenny Hildreth.
Kingsbridge Learning Event
- We briefly discussed the successful visit to Kingsbridge adult care management team and Tumbly Hill Day Centre. Rose, David, Denise and Moira Macdonald attended. This seemed to be a successful day and a model for replicating at other venues.
- It was felt that the morning session was better because we joined their team meeting.
Exmouth Learning Event
Val has booked the meeting room at Danby House, Exmouth on 7 Nov 05 for a learning event day. Volunteers required to attend this event throughout the day. You can request time off from your manager to support this as it is very much part of your duties as a ULR. Rose will be unable to attend the morning but can make the afternoon. This would be a good event for our new ULRs and prospective ULRs.
Women's Lives Course
The WEA are hoping to arrange this course, venue not known yet but early in the New Year. We hope to inform and recruit for this course in Exmouth on 7 Nov 05.
Future meetings
We set dates for future meetings so that they will not be so far apart.
The dates are the first Monday of each month - meetings to be from 10 till 12.
We have not set locations for most as we felt it would be useful to hold them in other locations. Please can ULRs think about which meeting they would like to host locally, book a venue and let us all know before end of October. This is our attempt to bring meetings to you so please take advantage of this and make a bid for a meeting to be held in your area. Why not think about combining it with a learning event for the team you work in or a team in your area? We could have our meeting in the morning and a lunch time and afternoon event for members afterwards.

A big thank you to Karen Silcox for her hard work in getting the Lifelong Learning courses on to the Social services area of the Devon County Council Learning and development web site.
Feedback
- There was an interesting and informative report from Jenny Hildreth. Jenny has also been able to speak to 15 NVQ candidates - congratulations to Jenny for this.
- We need to try to recruit more ULRs from the NVQ assessors.
- Also congratulations to Denise for organising the Kingsbridge day.
Early Day Motion 159
- Rose has written to all local MPs
and councillors in Devon. A number of our local MPs have signed this
motion congratulating ULRs and the government for promoting learning:
Alison Seabeck
Linda Gilroy
Nick HarveyAs a government minister Ben Bradshaw cannot sign the motion. However he has replied saying that he supports it.
