The Branch has received an HR1 – an official document from Devon County Council informing the union there are to be redundancies. The number of possible redundancies could be up to 1,000 over the next three years. Where this will occur is not known at present but all services will suffer to a greater or lesser extent. After the Council Cabinet meeting in December the detail should become clearer. However, we expect the first redundancies could come as early as the New Year.
Clearly the next few months (and years) are going to be even more stressful for our members who have already endured a number of pay freezes and cuts to services.
The Council has said there will be open dialogue with staff and the unions from both the cabinet and senior management and the Branch will be taking an active role in these discussions in an attempt to mitigate against job losses wherever possible.
