Teaching assistants and school support staff members can now apply to UNISON’s Educational Bursaries Scheme for a Personal Learning Development Grant of £300.
These grants towards course fees are being piloted with teaching assistants and school support staff members. Ten awards of £300 each are available to help you get on at work and develop your career.
UNISON has introduced the grant because of the difficulties members face in affording career development training due to huge increases in course fees and the withdrawal by many employers of financial support for career development.
The grants are available for a wide range of courses . They can be used for study on any general non-vocational course (for example, IT training, study skills training, languages, etc) or any vocational course relevant to working in public services, including services delivered by private contractors or employers, (for example, counselling, accountancy and management courses would be supported but not beautician training or electronic engineering).
When allocating these awards, UNISON will give preference to members with few or no qualifications. UNISON is also keen to hear from members who are active in their branch. However applications are welcomed from all teaching assistants and school support staff members.
To apply email LearningAndOrganising@unison.co.uk or call UNISON direct 0800 0 857 857. The deadline for applications is 27 August 2015.
